Visual Art League of Lewisville

100 North Charles Street, Classroom 3

Lewisville's Visual Art League is an all-volunteer organization with community members who share an interest in the visual arts and fine crafts. Membership includes professional artists and art educators who exhibit their work state-wide and nationally, as well as individuals whose avocations - if not passions - are the visual arts.

The Visual Art League is proud to be sponsored in part by the City of Lewisville and the Greater Lewisville Arts Council.

VAL's Mission

The mission of the Visual Art League is to promote the visual arts through education and exhibitions for the enrichment of the individual and the community. The Visual Art League supports the visual arts by providing the facilities for instruction in wide-ranging aspects of the arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and fine crafts, and providing gallery space for exhibitions in a variety of media.

VAL's History

Organized in 1978, the Visual Art League began as a small group of members who sought to enhance the appreciation of artistic talent in Lewisville. These members met once each month in each otherÕs homes, in local businesses, and in the former Chamber of Commerce building, in order to discuss their work, hear art professionals speak, and watch professional artists demonstrate techniques and artistsÕ materials. In addition to providing judges for student art shows and classes for seniors, members exhibited their own art work in local businesses and in lobby space graciously provided by the Greater Lewisville Community Theater.

In June of 1997, the Visual Art League established a center for activities when members began leasing a vacant storefront to use as a gallery space in Old Town Lewisville. Today, continuing the monthly meetings, the Visual Art League schedules speakers and art demonstrators the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm at the Art Center, located at 150-A West Main Street. These meetings are open, and the public is welcome to visit.

VAL's Art Center

As our mission states, the Visual Art League is to promote the visual arts through education and exhibitions for the enrichment of the individual and the community. The Visual Art League supports the visual arts by providing the facilities for instruction in wide-ranging aspects of the arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and fine crafts, and providing gallery space for exhibitions in a variety of media.

The Visual Art League's Art Center is divided into three galleries, which can be utilized for exhibitions, workshops and classes dedicated to the visual arts. Artist and instructors are encouraged to use the facility for exhibitions and educational purposes at a nominal fee. The Art Center is made possible through the generous support of the Greater Lewisville Arts Council and The City of Lewisville.
