Six Degrees of Separation,  the theory that any person on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries. Illustrating this theory, the play by John Guare was the winner of the 1993 Olivier Award for Best Play and the 1991 New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play.  It features an affluent New York City couple, Louisa "Ouisa" Kittredge and John Flanders "Flan" Kittredge, upper-class private art dealers, pretentious but compassionate. who find their lives touched, intruded upon, and compelled by a mysterious young black man who is never quite who he says he is.
