To say that Texans love their golf courses may be putting it mildly. Ranking the hundreds of public Texas golf courses has become a regular feature of golf websites and newspaper articles. Hit the green in style with our picks for the following 10 best! 

1. Twin Rivers Golf Club, Waco, TX

Twin Rivers Golf Club styles itself as “Waco’s finest public golf course,” and we tend to agree. Baylor University uses it for their men and women’s golf teams. The course was designed by PGA Tour Professional Peter Jacobsen and PGA member Jim Hardy and spans almost 7,500 yards.

2. Pine Dunes, Frankston, TX

Pine Dunes describes itself thusly: “Carved through majestic, century old pine trees with contoured fairways and rolling terrain, Pine Dunes provides the most peaceful setting you’ll find a for a world-class round of golf.” They’ve won an assortment of awards from Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, and more, including being named as the number one course in Texas by GolfWeek Magazine. The course itself is a 4.5 star rated championship golf course and hosts regular events.

3. Iron Horse Golf Course, North Richland Hills, TX

The Iron Horse Golf Course offers world-class golf to the North Richland Hills area of Texas. The course was designed by Dick Phelps and includes dining and event-hosting options. The course is par-70 and sits on over 6,700 yards. 

4. Delaware Springs Golf Course, Burnet, TX

Delaware Springs Golf Course is owned by the City of Burnet and remains open to the public. In addition to regular events, including Masters tournaments and Super Bowl Bash Tournaments, their golf academy teaches the game to younger players.

5. Squaw Valley, Glen Rose, TX

Home to 36 holes of Championship Golf, Squaw Valley brings world-class golf to Glen Rose, Texas. According to their website, they are “also home to the #1 and #4 municipal courses in Texas as ranked by the Dallas Morning News.” If you find yourself in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and have a hankering for golf, Squaw Valley is the place to be.

6. Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club, Fairview, TX

Members and public golfers are invited to enjoy this par-72 course, measuring almost 7,000 yards in Fairview, Texas. Active, adult golfers might consider living at the Heritage Ranch, a 55+ gated community for adults sitting on 575 acres, adjacent to the course. 7. Fazio Canyons Golf Course, Austin, TX

One of www.golf.com’s Best Public Golf Courses for 2016-2017, Fazio Canyons Golf Course is legendary for its Audubon International Signature Sanctuary certification and excellent reviews. The course sits on 7,153 yards on the Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa. 

8. The Rawls Course at Texas Tech, Lubbock, TX

The Rawls Course at Texas Tech is another inclusion on www.golf.com’s Best Public Golf Course list and has been named the #2 Course You Can Play in Texas and #3 Best Campus Course by Golfweek. They offer annual junior summer camps, annual pass memberships, and golf associations for men and ladies.

9. The Old American Golf Club, The Colony, TX

The Old American Golf Club in the Colony, Texas, was built to mirror the classic golf courses from 1910-1937, according to the architects. 10. Lajitas Golf Course, Lajitas, TX
