Texas Word Wrangler Book Festival
276 N. Orange Street,
979-542-2716

The Texas Word Wrangler Festival began in Giddings in September of 2005. The town realized there were so many talented authors out there, many of them local and state, who we would like to recognize and encourage. To that end the Giddings Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Giddings Public Library and Cultural Center to create the Texas Word Wranglers. Word Wranglers use words to convey ideas, stories, portray people and places.

Every year authors submit their stories to the library and up to 30 are chosen based on certain criteria. To be in the Texas Word Wrangler Festival an author must either have a new book that has been published within the past year or they must be first time attendants. The Texas Word Wrangler Festival gives them the opportunity to meet their public and sell and sign their books.

There is a wide range of subject matter that our authors write about: children’s books, archeology, poetry, Texas cookbooks, bird watching, fiction, history, historical fiction, mystery, romance, music, Texas Gardening, and anything related to Texas. We have an all day festival at the Giddings Public Library & Cultural Center featuring several author readings and Q&A sessions. On Thursday the authors are invited to visit the Giddings Public Schools to talk to students about the writing process, idea for stories, how a book is taken from the idea to the written page and much more.

On Thursday evening we host a fundraising gala event to introduce the authors to the community. Authors receive two complimentary tickets to attend the gala and will have a table available to pre-sell books to the invitation only crowd.

The first year we had eleven authors at our event. The second year we had twenty one authors attend our event, ten participated at the schools. The third year we had Hurricane Ike and half of our authors were unable to attend. On our fourth year we honored our volunteer fire fighters, EMS and policemen for their hard work and dedication. Authors who have previously attended our event have included: LaVerne Karrell Clark, Bungy Hedley, Sarah Clark Jordan, Bob Lawrence, Donna Loomis, Charlotte Siegmund, Rick Vanderpool and Frank Wagner.

We look forward to hearing from you!
