Mission:
The MAC is a nonprofit organization that stands as a Dallas advocate for creative freedom, offering the opportunity for experimentation and presentation of art in all disciplines. It supports the emerging and established artist’s role in society by providing a forum for critical dialogue with their audiences. This relationship is cultivated through education and innovative programming.
About:
The MAC is a nonprofit arts organization that stands as an advocate for creative freedom, presenting visual art in all its forms. It supports emerging to established local, regional and international artists by offering the opportunity for exhibition and experimentation and by providing a forum for critical dialogue.
In the summer of 2015, The MAC moved from its home of twenty years on McKinney Avenue to 1601 South Ervay St in the Cedars neighborhood. After over two years of adventurous programming in the unrenovated raw warehouse at 1601 South Ervay, The MAC will open our new exhibition space, on–campus at 1503 South Ervay St. The 2,500 sq.ft. facility is located at the corner of S. Ervay and Sullivan, next door to Ro2 Art.
History:
The MAC, formerly The McKinney Avenue Contemporary, opened in October of 1994 as the first venue in North Texas where contemporary art of all disciplines could be explored under one roof, striving to make the challenging world of contemporary art relevant and accessible to new and continuing audiences. The MAC has set an extraordinary record of presenting over 1,000 artists in the galleries. In 2012, The MAC welcomed more than 14,000 visitors to the gallery, emphasizing the significance of our free programming.
The MAC and North Cedars Thirty LLC announced their partnership in creating a new permanent home for The MAC as the anchor tenant of a new mixed-use commercial development in the Cedars neighborhood in Dallas.
In the summer of 2015, The MAC moved its programming to the historic Ben Griffin Ford building at 1601 South Ervay Street, which is part of a five-building, three-acre compound being renovated and repurposed by North Cedars Thirty LLC.
The MAC will occupy over 4,000 square feet through a long-term lease with North Cedars Thirty LLC, a Dallas-based development company. Local architect Dan Shipley leads the redesign, which includes space for commercial galleries, nonprofits, restaurants, retail, and an urban green space.
Nationally, Art News, Art in America, and the New York Times have recognized our exhibitions; and locally, in Dallas Observer, Dallas Morning News, D Magazine, Glasstire, Art&Seek, etc.
