Amarillo Zoo

Where more than imaginations run WILD!

Founded in 1955 the Amarillo Zoo is a place to share the wonders of the animal world with kids of all ages. The beautiful 15-acre site is located in Thompson Park and features over 60 species of animals. The zoo is designed for fun and discovery and will provide a lifetime of memories. Here, you'll do more than just look...you'll experience the animal world.

Once you've finished enjoying the zoo, make sure to visit Thompson Park. Visitors will discover shaded picnic areas, playgrounds, beautiful lakes, swimming, tennis and walking trails in this 330-acre regional park.

We’re having a party!

The Amarillo Zoo’s three African lions Solomon, Sheba and Sarai all turn 7 years old this month and we are throwing them a party! Throughout the day we will have children’s crafts, temporary exotic cat tattoos, live music and special animal activities for the Zoo animals. At 1:30 you can join in singing Happy Birthday to the lions before they get to “open” their special gifts.

Be prepared to have a ROARING good time!!
